Here’s a wonderfully made advertisement for thedarkpower’s Mechanical Steam Powered Power Plant and Geist Goggles. Awesome!

From his YouTube description, this was “just for fun, a small advert for some steampunk props I constructed.”

I’m so impressed! Not only are his props amazing, but he nailed the steampunk style in his video. Someone give this guy a job in Hollywood!

Mechanical Steampunk Wing Costume

   Posted by: manny

Here’s an incredible costume by Brian Matthews, also known as piratebrine on Youtube.

His costume is that of a steampunk explorer, and the way the wings on his back is very cool. But when he spreads his wings? Wow! I’m ready to believe he can fly away.

So cool, great work!

SteamPunk’d: The Short Movie

   Posted by: manny

john-strangewayToday I was contacted by Steampunk Boba Fett, aka John F. Strangeway. He’s a part of Penny Dreadful Productions, an awesome costume production company offering “Conceptual Design, Special Makeup and Prosthetics, Specialty Props, Costumes and Specialty Costuming, Public Art and Display, and much more.”

They recently put together this fun short movie, called Steampunk’d. I think it’s excellent, despite being a fun way to test a new HD camera. I love the steampunk Frankenstein feel to it. Great work, Guys!

More information from the Youtube description:

The other day, the gang and I got a chance to experiment with a new still camera that shoots 1080p HD video. I was given a day or two for prep, came up with this silly idea for an Over the Top funny steampunk short and 15 hours later here we are. The Video was shot in 5 hours and edited in ten. Please keep in mind when watching that this was just a fun project for me and the crew from Penny Dreadful Productions. I understand it’s not the greatest quality, there tons of continuity issues, awful lighting issues, and shaky camera moves, but hopefully everyone will enjoy it regardless.

Here’s a promotional video for Penny Dreadful Productions. Be sure to check out their site. Big thanks to John for sending in the tip!

Have a Happy Steampunk St. Patrick’s Day!

   Posted by: manny

The League of STEAM put together this funny short steampunk video for St. Patrick’s Day. They travel to Ireland and try to catch a leprechaun. Naturally, they get more than they bargained for, and hilarity ensues.

I just love all of the gadgets and props, very fun stuff!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Steampunk Gun that Really Works

   Posted by: manny

steampunk-rifle-1

This steampunk rifle not only looks gorgeous, but it actually works! Although, instead of firing real ammo, the creator of this gun uses ping pong balls, rubber bouncy balls and confetti.

It’s for sale on Ebay and the current bid is $250.00.

Fashioned from copper, brass, antique pine and assorted lamp parts. This air cannon can be loaded with four ping pong balls in its magazine that can be shot at high speed (the barrel is designed to hold the balls in place even with movement) or alternatively be loaded with confetti in the barrel. This stunning piece runs off two nine volt batteries and air pressure. The stock and stand are hand made from yellow pine that is over 100 years old.

Here’s a video of the steampunk gun in action. I love it, great work!

Third Rail Projects: Steampunk Haunted House

Third Rail Project: Steampunk Haunted House

Last September, I blogged about the steampunk haunted house in Pittsburgh, PA.

Here’s a look at another steampunk haunted house in New York City. Put together by the Third Rail Projects, this haunted house has gathered a lot of media attention and publicity because it’s so incredibly awesome.

MSN has nice photo essay entitled, How to Build a Steampunk Haunted House, and they offer great DIY ideas as well as a nice look into the haunted house by Third Rail Projects.

This would be so fun to go to! If you happen to live in the New York City area, you can purchase tickets online at www.thirdrailprojects.com.

Steampunk Leather Masks and Helmets

   Posted by: manny

Artist Tom Banwell has created an amazing collection of steampunk leather masks and helmets. Aren’t these something? These masks look like they easily belong in a big budget movie.

There’s definitely a Star Wars, steampunk Darth Vader feel to them. So awesome!
